Overview And Scope

The Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology includes final diagnosis of the disease by means of using microscopic, biochemical and other features and its correlation with clinical as well as radiological findings. This can be combined with latest advanced investigative techniques.

The Department helps various clinicians by giving confirmatory diagnosis hence it occupies a unique position in the healthcare community. A thorough knowledge of Oral Pathology and Microbiology therefore lays the foundation for accurate diagnosis which in turn lays the ground for precise treatment.

UG Programme

The department’s UG programme encompasses the subjects of Dental Anatomy & Histology and Oral Pathology extended over the first three years of the BDS course.

The department equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to accurately diagnose diseases and disorders of the oral cavity. Students learn about Dental anatomy, Embryology, Oral Histology, Oral Pathology, Microbiology and Forensic Odontology.

Post Graduate Programme

The MDS programme in the department is a 3 year specialized training module aimed at training dental surgeons in various routine and advanced diagnostic techniques for a career as an oral pathologist.

  • Training in the pathogenesis and histopathologic nature of various oral diseases.
  • Training in operating diagnostic and investigative devices and interpreting observations.
  • Routine and advanced histopathological/hematological investigative procedures.
  • Regular academic exercises like Seminars, Case discussions, JCs and research/study designing and execution.
  • Training in various forensic odontology procedures like Dental age estimation, Bite mark analysis, MDI etc.
