Overview And Scope

The Department of Orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics specializes in the correction of abnormalities of jaw and teeth through the use of various removable and fixed appliances. Treatment takes the form of pre-adjusted edgewise appliances, lingual appliances , ceramic braces, myofunctional appliances, clear aligners, surgical orthodontics and micro implant based orthodontics.

The Department has excellent facilities ranging from separate UG and PG clinics with advanced digital imaging and treatment simulation system, a first, which enables planning of complex procedures.

A combination of classroom lectures and practical experience at the clinic provides students with excellent understanding of procedures. With research being an important goal of the department, all PG and PhD students undertake research projects. The department currently has around a 1000 on-going cases covering all aspects of the specialty.

The postgraduate section has adequate dental chairs with all modern amenities. The post-graduate program prepares qualified dentists to manage the full range of Dentofacial discrepancies like Cleft lip and palate, temporomandibular discrepancies and various craniofacial syndromes. The department also conducts interdisciplinary discussion for cases like Ortho-perio cases, orthognathic cases and pre prosthetic cases, which fall within the responsibility of the Orthodontics

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME

The undergraduate are trained by means of lectures with demonstrations, tutorials, preclinical, laboratory, and clinical work. The training program is supervised by eminent faculty.

Under Graduate students on posting are being taught about the subject through clinical discussions and demonstration and are made to work on patients reporting to the department.
